Loose ridge caps lifted, old crumbling mortar cleared, and the caps re-set straight and secure in fresh bedding.
Ridge caps are the curved tiles along the peaks and hips of a tiled roof. They sit on a bed of mortar that holds them in place and seals the gap between the roof slopes. Over the years that bedding cracks and crumbles with heat, cold and movement in the roof.
Once the bedding fails, caps can work loose, sit crooked or let wind-driven rain in. Re-bedding fixes the base the caps sit on. It is usually done together with re-pointing, which seals the top.
Re-bedding is one of the most common jobs on older Melbourne tiled roofs, because the original mortar was never designed to last forever. If you are planning a full restoration, re-bedding is included where it is needed, so the caps are secure before the roof is coated. If only some runs have failed, we can quote just those.
Caps are held firmly again, so they stay in place in strong wind.
A sound bed seals the gap under the caps.
The roof looks neat and even from the street.
How we work: every job starts with a written quote, so you know what is being done and what it costs before anything starts. We only work on the outside of the roof. If we find something outside the quoted scope, we stop, show you photos and give you a written price, and nothing extra goes ahead without your OK. Insurance work is supported, and you can call or text us on 0468 248 908, 7 days, 7am to 7pm.
Bedding is the mortar under the caps. Pointing is the flexible seal over the top. Most older roofs need both.
